The new Fastweb modem router was born under the sign of Alexa: it will be the first router (in Italy) to integrate the Amazon voice assistant. The integration concerns both the modem router and the extenders called Fastweb Booster, that is the modules that allow you to expand the coverage inside the house using a Wi-fi mesh network. Both have a speaker inside and, in addition to managing the part dedicated to navigation, they also work as smart speakers and answer the call "Alexa". 
NeXXt, this is the name of the “smart” internet box, has a particular shape: it develops vertically, and the motivation is the need to integrate the speaker in the lower part and the antennas for Wi-fi 6 connectivity in the upper part. 
The product that Fastweb will provide instead of the classic Fastgate is a real modem: it directly integrates the port for the fiber and manages both FTTH and FTTC networks without problems. Fastweb has activated the 2.5 Gbps connection and in the future will bring the FTTH network to 10 Gbps and this modem is ready, even if the increase in bandwidth is not meant so much for the individual user as to provide adequate speed when more people are connected. 
There are four gigabit ports on the back of the router, and the ethernet port is also available on the back of individual extenders. In the case of a 2.5 Gbps FTTH connection, gigabit ports represent an obvious bottleneck, but with a modern device and a Wi-Fi 6 connection, peaks of 1.2 / 1.3 Gbps are reached in optimal conditions . The router manages up to 128 connected devices, more than the real needs of a modern home. 
Fastweb has provided an application to manage the router that follows that of other similar solutions: you can manage family profiles, set content filters for the little ones and even create typical scenarios such as "smart working", "gaming" or streaming. 
The device is seen as a router within the Alexa app and has practically all the functionality of an Amazon smart speaker, except for the zigbee connection : it cannot function as a home hub if there are devices that require this protocol . It can manage, without problems, Wi-Fi devices.
Good audio quality, although not at the level of a classic Amazon Echo, both for the router and for the speakers of the extenders.
The cost? Fastweb will offer this new modem on free loan to new subscribers, while those who are already Fastweb subscribers will only be able to request it from mid-July. In some cases, to switch to the new one, you will need to change the type of subscription with a payment of 49 euros, but you have to wait for the official release of the commercial offer. Fastweb's commercial offer for new subscribers with the new modem included will be available starting Monday, and there will be two versions, one with a modem only and one with a modem plus extender. At the moment there is no possibility of having more than one extender: this option will be unlocked only in the second part of the year.
