IOS 14.5 will make the iPhone perfect... Or almost it!
Apple's IOS 14.5 came out last night and with it comes a chance to unlock your phone protected by face ID if you wear a sanitary mask. This will make it much easier to spend the day without having to enter the passcode whenever you need to use your phone (because face ID can't recognize you with the mask). As long as your phone and clock are close, you will be able to unlock your phone by simply turning on the screen. Once you officially download IOS 14.5 (and watchOS 7.4), it will be easy to enable the feature that allows you to unlock your iPhone with your watch.
Now that you've installed it, here's what you're expecting. The Apple wearable vibrates whenever face ID sees you and sends you a notification telling you that the device has been unlocked or that you need to press a key to unlock the whole thing. Pressing the lock button immediately blocks your phone and requires an access code to the next unlock.
Having said this warning, the colleagues of the verge (but also us) have tried the function and were pleasantly surprised.
However, I find that not having to enter my passcode every time I want to check my shopping list while I do I am at the supermarket is a huge advantage and worth what I consider a relatively minor safety compromise. The function may not be the best solution for the super paranoid, but for everyone else it will be a nice improvement in the quality of life.
