How to transfer data from a smartphone to a Xiaomi - Have you finally decided to abandon your old smartphone for a new model of Xiaomi or Redmi? Have no idea how to transfer all your data to the new Xiaomi smartphone? Do not worry, with this short guide we explain how to take advantage of the tools that Xiaomi makes available to quickly transfer the most important data in a very simple way to the new smartphone, whether Xiaomi or Redmi.

How to transfer data to a new Xiaomi smartphone

Even if a large part of the data present in a smartphone can be transferred using the backup methods of the applications, or by taking advantage of online storage, such as WhatsApp, Gmail, Google account contacts and the like, it can be more difficult to transfer the SMS, smartphone contacts, photos, videos and applications installed on the old device. This is why the Xiaomi Mi Mover app, already integrated in the system and downloadable for free from the Play Store, comes to the rescue of new (or old) Xiaomi users. It is an app that creates a WiFi hotspot connection and uses the connectivity to transfer data from the old smartphone to the new Xiaomi.

Install Xiaomi Mi Mover

We carried out a test using an ASUS ZenFone 2 with Android 5.0 Lollipop and a new Redmi 7, simulating the transfer of data to a Xiaomi smartphone, even if the procedure is basically the same whatever the model of origin. It must be said that even if the old smartphone is a Xiaomi you will not even have to download the app, and the transfer procedure will be even more immediate.

Just download the outdated version of the application from this address and manually install the apk file on the old device. Alternatively, you can install the new version of the app, available on the Play Store through the badge below, on both devices, since the version of the Play Store and the one integrated into MIUI are not compatible. Don't worry about the written in Chinese, since the app will be in Italian, with some parts translated into English.

At this point you are ready to start the procedure for connecting the two smartphones to start transferring data from the old smartphone to the new Xiaomi.

Transfer data to a Xiaomi smartphone with Mi Mover

In our test we used the procedure that uses the new version of the application, but only the graphic part differs, since the operation is the same even using the previous version of Xiaomi Mi Mover.

On the target device, touch the icon "I am the recipient" or the word "I'm the recipient" with the new version. At this point, a private hotspot network is created with a randomly generated name. In the old smartphone you must select "I am the sender" or "I'm the sender" to start the pairing procedure.

After a short search you will see the name of the network created by the recipient and it will be sufficient to touch it to start the procedure that will connect the two devices via WiFi to transfer data from any smartphone to your new Xiaomi.

Once the connection is established you will see on the sender the list of files, settings and applications to be transferred. You can open each individual section to add or remove elements according to your needs, especially to avoid transferring duplicates or applications that you do not intend to use on the new smartphone.

Now you just have to get comfortable and wait for the completion of the data transfer from your old smartphone to the brand new Xiaomi, whose duration is obviously variable in relation to the size of the files to be copied and the WiFi speed of your smartphones.

Remember that you can move WhatsApp data by following the instructions in our guide, since the procedure just described does not transfer all the application archives but only the photos and videos. That's it for transferring data from the old smartphone to the new Xiaomi or Redmi.
