When you buy a smartphone, you often find yourself with apps that you will never use and that take up memory space that could otherwise be used. This practice is however to all manufacturers of mobile phones. Google, by transferring Android licenses to mobile phone brands, forces them to install some of its apps by default, such as the Google Play Store. Apple, which makes its own products, does the same thing on the iPhone. In this case we are therefore talking about system apps or bloatware and, at least technically, they cannot be deleted like other apps as they are integrated with the operating system. Only the manufacturer can delete them with a specific OS update. So here's how to uninstall Huawei system apps to speed up phone performance and free up memory space.

Uninstall Huawei system apps by unlocking root permissions

The first thing to do to uninstall Huawei system apps is to unlock root permissions. Android is an open source operating system and allows extensive customization by users more accustomed to the technology. Carrying out this procedure allows you to act directly on the software even if there are some clarifications to be made. Unlocking root permissions invalidates the smartphone warranty and could lead to a serious risk to the security of personal data and files saved on the terminal. Before proceeding, therefore, it is good to be aware of the possible danger.

To root Android, you must first remove the bootloader lock, which prevents you from installing apps without the manufacturer's signature. By doing this, the phone will reset and the memory will be erased. It is therefore recommended to make a backup. Once this is done, you must:

Since the procedure is quite complex, it is always preferable to rely on software that can do most of the work for us such as the KingoRoot andRoot Master apps or programs for Windows such as dr.fone – Root and OneClickRoot.

By unlocking root permissions, it is therefore possible to use special apps to uninstall Huawei system apps, also available for free on the AppGallery. Among the most used we have System app remover. Once the software has been launched, just select the system apps you want to uninstall from the list, click the Uninstall button and then restart your smartphone. Other equally effective services for uninstalling Huawei system apps are Titanium Backup, Root Uninstaller and Root Uninstaller Pro.

Uninstall Huawei system apps: how to uninstall applications on Huawei

For the less "geeks" and to avoid acting on root permissions, putting the security of your phone at risk, there is a simpler procedure to uninstall Huawei system apps. In reality, by carrying out the steps described below, the apps on the terminal are not deleted but can be deactivated, preventing them from starting together with the operating system. However, this does not free up space on the phone's memory.

The procedure to follow is as follows:

In this way, useless or superfluous system apps will no longer appear together with other software both through search and on the Home. They will also not be able to be updated nor will they open automatically when you turn on or restart the terminal.

There is also another way to hide system apps. In fact, this procedure also prevents these software from receiving updates from Huawei and removes them from the app list, thus making it more difficult to start them by mistake. The apps are therefore virtually invisible but remain installed on the phone, without freeing up memory space. In this case you must:

These steps prevent useless system apps from receiving updates from Huawei, while to hide them from view and in the app list you need to install a new launcher like Nova Launcher.

Using a Custom ROM

Another remedy, albeit rather drastic, which offers a result similar to uninstalling Huawei system apps is to use a Custom ROM, i.e. a customized graphical interface that goes to replace the manufacturer's official EMUI. This procedure allows for a lighter operating system thanks to the absence of unwanted apps and with even more punctual updates than those of the company. On the XDA Developer site in the Android Development section you can enter the Huawei phone model and find out the supported Custom ROMs.

After unlocking root permissions, you must activate the developer options and USB Debugging by deactivating the protections. You will then need to install a recovery console like TWRP. Before starting, it is recommended to fully charge the phone and make a backup to avoid losing photos, videos or anything else. To launch the recovery console:

Alternatively, a custom interface can be installed using special apps. All it takes is a little Google search to find the one that's right for you.

Huawei and Android: the Chinese company frees itself from dependence on Google

The partnership between Huawei and Google lasted for years but ended in 2020 with the election of Donald Trump as President of the States United. The tycoon has in fact included the Chinese manufacturer in the black list of companies with which American companies cannot do business to protect US cyber security. The sanctions imposed by Trump therefore prohibit Google from providing technical support to new smartphone models from Huawei and block access to Google Mobile Services, i.e. the package of services for Android developers.

This does not mean that Huawei's phones will no longer be updated but simply that the manufacturer will take care of issuing security patches. Huawei already offers its customers its own customized Android interface called EMUI and has launched its own alternative app store to the Google Play Store called AppGallery.

“At Huawei, we always put our consumers first, no matter what challenges we face. – reads a note on the manufacturer's website – All Huawei smartphones and tablets that have Google Mobile Services (GMS) will continue to receive security patches and software updates. Anyone who has already bought or is about to buy a Huawei smartphone can continue to access the world of apps as they always have.

Our most popular devices, including the Huawei P30 series, have Android 10 with support for the Google Play Store. Some of our latest devices like Huawei P40 series, Mate 30 Pro, Mate Xs and MatePad Pro are based on EMUI 10 or EMUI 10.1 with Huawei AppGallery support. Customers can still access thousands of apps through Huawei AppGallery, the app store of the future. Regardless of the Huawei device purchased, all devices will continue to be covered by the conventional warranty and will consequently receive a complete assistance service”.

On June 2, 2021, Huawei nevertheless presented its proprietary operating system HarmonyOS, also based on Android but which in the near future will replace the Google platform on the Chinese company's devices. The second version of HarmonyOS debuted the following month on Huawei P50 and Huawei P50 Pro and does not include the services of the Mountain View giant.
