Democratize the folding smartphone segment, at least in the version in which a traditional screen halves its size to become an element of style. Transform the hybrid between a phone and tablet into a pocket-sized entertainment and productivity tool, not even making you regret the Note series thanks to the compatibility with a stylus packed with advanced features. Further enrich the galaxy of wearables with smartwatches that are as advanced as they are elegant and with smart headphones.

This is how Samsung's latest launch event can be summarized, the almost Ferragostano Unpacked, which will bring a wide range of new products to stores by the end of the month, in time for the resumption of September. Two smartphones with flexible screens, the Galaxy Z Fold3 5G and the Z Flip3 5G, the first large size, the second for those who prefer a pocket version; the Watch4 and Watch4 Classic watches, one with a sportier soul, the other for those who are less minimal and have become accustomed to the rotating bezel to travel between menus; Galaxy Buds2 wireless earphones, which replace the morphological experiments of previous years with a pragmatism that makes them more effective.

Before delving into the prices and strengths of each product, a general reflection: Samsung makes an evident qualitative leap to its most courageous proposals. Even for the most experimental, one can speak of a test of maturity. Here, in short, why.

The screen widens, the price shrinks

We have to start from the price tag: from 1,099 euros, less than a top-of-the-range smartphone. For a phone that beats them all, even if only for the disbelief it can unleash. Those who want to amaze their friends, while using an object that is beautiful to look at, light in the hand, comfortable in the pocket, with clean and graceful lines, can certainly consider the Galaxy Z Flip3 5G. Aware, it is almost a paradox compared to previous years, which will spend less than current and future proposals of the competition with the rigid screen.

Pending a thorough test, the first impression is great: the device weighs just 183 grams and has a 6.7-inch main screen with up to 120Hz refresh rate. Without burying themselves in numbers, the colors are vivid, sharp, really pleasant to use. The novelty is the external screen, the one placed next to the two cameras: it is 1.9 inches, it allows you to read four lines of notifications and scroll through the others, consult the weather, the time, pay in stores, take a selfie. Compared to the previous generation, you have an acceptable experience even without having to open the phone.

There are two 12 megapixel cameras (the internal one for selfies is 10): we are certainly a step below the classic cameraphone, but for everyday use on social media and video calls nothing is missing. Samsung has also greatly strengthened the body, using a new material, the Armor Aluminum, which gains in lightness and has also added water resistance, which is far from obvious for this category of devices.

In short, if first choosing it was equivalent to adhering to a compromise, this time you are faced with an object at the height of an advanced user. And that gives great attention to details: the colors cream, green, lavender, the classic black, gray, white and pink allow many customizations, the possibility of choosing a phone that matches your aesthetic taste. For 1,149 euros you have the version with 8 gigabytes of ram and 256 gigabytes of storage space, the basic one is 128 gigabytes, both of which are not expandable. Moreover, those who pre-order the Flip until August 26, in addition to a maximum of 450 euros for the evaluation of the used car, get one year of the «Samsung Care +» service (covers accidental damage and breakage of the display), plus a 100-euro voucher. It is as if the basic version cost 999 euros. For a leaflet, it's a very interesting and bold price repositioning.

The power of versatility

It certainly cannot be said that 1,849 euros are a price for everyone, but we must consider that some top of the traditional range are now close to 1,600 euros. And they don't offer dual screens like the Galaxy Z Fold3 5G which, alongside the 6.2-inch exterior, packs a 7.6-inch main display inside. Again without getting lost behind numbers and resolutions - all specs are on the official website - the screens perform very well. And the internal one, moreover, has the camera placed under the pixels, so for contents such as movies and video games it makes that annoying black hole disappear, so the show becomes uninterrupted.

Approaching this object triggers a certain deference mixed with distrust, almost a fear. But then, in the test of the pocket, with the right pants it fits in without trauma (certainly the maximum thickness is 16 millimeters and the weight of 271 grams, not really a twig), but nothing infeasible in the face of the benefit of being able to have a office in your pocket. Even more so now that there is compatibility with the S Pen, available in two different versions depending on the user's needs. One ad hoc for this model, the other, the Pro, equipped with Bluetooth and the strength of transversality: it goes with tablets, computers, other smartphones from the Korean house compatible with this technology.

Compared to its younger brother, everything is pumped up here, starting with the camera that becomes triple, always with a 12 megapixel sensor each. The battery is 4,400 mAh, the storage capacity reaches half a giga, there is what it takes to combine useful and pleasure, work and leisure. The basic storage space cut is 256 giga (with 12 of ram), to have 512 you have to spend 1,949 euros. More promotions for those who pre-order: in addition to the 100 euro bonus, the maximum 450 euro discount on used items, one year of Samsung Care + service included, you get the "Note Pack". The homage in the name is to the now retired Note family, the bundle includes a cover, the S Pen and an adapter.

Sleep and fitness at the center

In the galaxy of smartwatches, Samsung products are probably the most interesting, useful, fluid in everyday use, especially if paired with a phone from the Korean house (they also go well with other Android, but it's not the same thing). The novelty is that the company has partnered with Google to get out of the autarchy a little and integrate the most used services of Big G on its devices. For example, maps, to be guided from one place to another without take the phone out of the pocket; a more satisfying experience with Spotify, even offline, so you can go for a run without carrying your phone. The stated goal is to make the experience on the wrist as superimposable as possible to that with the phone, making one the continuation of the other. So when we install an application on the mobile phone, if it is also available for the smartwatch it will be downloaded automatically, so it will be ready for use on both screens, the large rectangular one and the small circular wristwatch.

Looking at them, weighing them, turning them over in your hands, the Watch4 and the Watch4 Classic are an excellent hybrid of style and build quality, lightness and the result of a good diet compared to previous generations. The dial in aluminum or stainless steel conveys value, no plastic effect from chinesis assembled at the least worst. The more classic version, as anticipated, incorporates the ring, while the normal one allows you to move through the menus intuitively via touch controls.

Notifications and Google integration are fine, but the focus is on health and fitness, via a series of sensors and chipsets that are dedicated to monitoring heart activity, blood pressure, and other metrics. As well as to keep an eye on physical activity, through the recognition of over 100 sports and activities. However, there are two steps forward to underline: in sleep monitoring, the smartwatch tells us if we have snored and for how long. In addition, it helps to understand the state of fitness of the body by indicating the amount of muscle, fat mass, water retention and surroundings. A whole series of data that was previously captured by external objects - for example scales and assorted sensors - are now captured by the same object that acts as a compass and doctor, personal trainer and organizer. Again, without requiring exorbitant amounts. It starts from 269 euros for the Watch4 and from 369 euros for the Watch4 Classic. The most expensive model, 46 mm and with the integrated LTE connection, reaches 449 euros. Anyone who buys them until 5 September gets a 70 euro voucher.

Goodbye annoying noises

It's okay that the headphones are used first of all to listen to music well, but the Galaxy Buds2 offer very interesting functions for calls too. For example, through their microphones, they capture disturbing noises during a conversation such as the sound of a horn, the noise of a construction site, the blowing of the wind and make it disappear, so that our interlocutor can understand without interference what we are saying.

Getting rid of noise is their specialty even while playing a song: through active noise cancellation, they promise to get rid of up to 98 percent of the background chaos of everyday life. Or, if it is needed, for example to talk to someone standing in front of us, get her back on stage immediately.

Many standard precautions: a mechanism to configure them via the app, understanding with a quick test which are the most suitable rubber pads for each user. The ability to adjust their settings as well from a PC, the ability to quickly juggle between smartphones and tablets, to answer a call while watching a TV series on a larger display. All with improved performance, starting with the bass. They cost 149 euros, if you buy them until 5 September you get a 50-euro voucher.
